TO: All X-C
Coaches Assigned to Lakeland C.C.
FROM:
Doug Pohto, Meet Manager, Jim Pelich, Assistant
Manager and Stan Kasserman, Referee
Due to the constant poor
weather, meet management has put a plan in place for inclement weather the day
of the meet and/or during a race. We
will monitor the weather the day of the meet and have an air horn, which will
be blown by the referee if thunder or lightening is detected. At that time all coaches will be expected to
get all their athletes on their bus. If
competitors hear the horn during a race, they should leave the course
immediately and make their way to their bus.
All course umpires will be notified of this as well. At that time, the 30 minute guideline will
go into effect. If this happens during
a race, that race will be rerun, in its entirety, at a time deemed appropriate
by the Referee.
We’ve decided to cancel the practice sessions
scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 18th and Thursday, Oct. 20th. Due to the
amount of rain we’ve experienced, parts of the course would not stand up to
being used by a large number of athletes leading up to the competition. This is not a decision meet management took
lightly. We ask for your cooperation
with this decision. We have
scheduled these days in the past, because we thought it was the correct thing
to do, in spite of the NE Board’s policy of not permitting such days. To quote the Meet Manager’s guidelines
provided by the NE Board, “There will be NO PRACTICE SESSIONS permitted at any
district sites other than pre-race warm-up”.
The NE Board has had this policy in place for years.
These steps are being
taken because we feel that they are in the best interest of the
kids/competitors. This addresses their
safety and will give them the best possible course come race day. These decisions will only work if all 56
teams cooperate!
